Welcome to the first in a series of mini projects—called Mindful Marks—designed to help you cultivate mindfulness through art. In a world that often feels overwhelming, I wanted to offer a creative escape—something soothing and immersive. Art that involves rhythm and repetition can be especially powerful for getting lost in the process, quieting the mind, and finding a sense of flow.
To get the most out of this project, try this approach:
Be fully present, focusing on the process rather than the final result.
Immerse yourself in the act of drawing or painting, allowing time to fade away.
Let go of the pressure to make something “good” and simply enjoy the experience.
I hope this project brings you a sense of calm and creative joy.

Thank you!
Thank you for trying my valentines hearts tutorials! I hope you had fun and enjoyed the process. I’d love to hear your feedback, especially any thoughts on how I can improve future Mindful Marks tutorials.
Pattern repetition in art goes back to Indigenous practices both as individuals and as community. Some of the most striking pattern art is the dot painting of the Australian Aboriginals of Papunya. A good friend used to run a gallery in NYC of their beautiful artisan pieces. Some were patterned just for pattern sake to create effects of sun or water or stones. Others were more representational and told stories through pattern.
