Hi, I’m Portia! I create patterns, illustrations, and art, and I love experimenting with different styles, materials, and processes. Through this newsletter, I’m excited to share my creations, inspirations, and tutorials with you.
My goal is to send out a weekly newsletter, though the timing may evolve as I discover what resonates most with you (and as life happens).
Later today, keep an eye out for a special Valentine’s-themed email/post featuring a fun and free tutorial!
So glad you're here—hope this brings a little joy and creativity your way!
Recent Work
One of my favorite recent projects (pictured above) is a traffic cabinet wrap for the city of Greeley, Colorado. I love designing dense, layered patterns featuring native plants, birds, and insects, so I was especially excited for this piece—my first foray into public art. My hope is that those who see it will pause for a moment and be reminded of the beauty and complexity of the flora and fauna that thrive around us—even in urban spaces.
More Floral Themed Patterns
The design above was inspired by a childhood memory of a beautiful skirt or dress my mom used to wear. Funny enough, I can’t remember the garment itself, but I vividly remember the pattern—the bold contrast of orange and black and the free-flowing cascade of poppies. That impression stayed with me, and now this design lives on in fabric and a variety of products.
Continuing with the California theme, this design showcases a variety of common California wildflowers. Do you prefer the vibrant colors or the more muted palette? You can see the the bold version on fabric and products, as well as the neutral version, which is also available on fabric and products.
